No longer able to burn dvd+r's

Hi all--
I am using Slackware 9.1. Up until two months ago, I was able to burn dvd+r's using the command line as well as TKDvd. I started having problems when I tried making dvd's, but making coasters became real easy. So I bought another burner and everything was cool until last month. Now I can't burn dvd+r's but I still can burn dvd+rw. Here is what happens when I try burning a dvd.iso using 'growisofs'

growisofs -Z /dev/dvd=dvd.iso
Executing 'builtin_dd if=dvd.iso of=/dev/dvd obs=32k seek=0'
/dev/dvd: "Current Write Speed" is 8.0x1385KBps.

:-( write failed: No medium found

Can someone shed some light on this strange problem, or suggest a site to check out? Thanks for the info....

Were there any packages that you updated or installed at about the same time that your DVD burning stopped working?

What about the medium you're using? Is it the same as what you used before "until two months ago"?

That command isn't the same as what I use, but that might not matter. I'm using:
Code:
growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/hd*=image.iso
You might want to issue and read "man growisofs" for more info on -dvd-compat

There's more info here > http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/

hello---
Well, I guess by medium you mean brand? I was using Memorax and now am using Fuji.... I don't think that is the problem because I can burn with Nero in winxp.... but now I don't have sound when I play dvds in windoze...(long story short...since I can no longer burn with linux, I would use xp but now gotta a sound issue! When I tried burning with nero, it copys and plays back fine...that is if you like silent flix)
)
The command you mentioned I have used, but they both seemed to have worked...

thanks for the comments
