No files listed after connecting Samsung Galaxy S II via USB

Hello,

i wanted to copy some pictures from my laptop to a smart phone. I connected the laptop and the phone. It was automatically mounted and recognized as:

MTP Devide
USB PTP Class Camera

I see the same directory structure in whichever folder i enter. I find it weird that i am able to see the directory tree only, there is no single file in any of the directories.

Moreover - i have micro SD card in the phone. I cannot get the data on it.

Do you have any idea if i should be seeing any files although the phone is running Android OS? Should i be able to see the files on the micro SD card? Should i install any specific application in order to do that? Do you have any experience with Linux and smart phones?

Thanks!

Hello,

on my Android-Smartphone I have the App "AndFTP" installed and copy files to and from the phone via FTP. It is only necessary that both devices are in the same wireless network.

To your question, normally when the phone is mounted you should see the files like with any other USB-device. But note that you'll have to tell your phone that it has to act as a USB-Memory-device, not as a modem!

AndFTP also supports ssh or sftp file transfers. And you don't need to be on the same wireless network, you just need both devices on the internet.

FYI, yesterday on google plus, I spotted someone suggesting AirDroid: just wonderful.

Thanks,

it turned out that it was some setting that "presented" the phone as USB mass storage device. I could not find it from the first time but had to "dig" in the menu options deeper.

Regarding AndFTP - i would probably intall it although i am not able so far to use the wireless network of my laptop under Linux. I am connected to the modem via cable.

I wish you all the best!
