no colour printing = no school work

Unfortunatly my HP deskjet 952c will not print in colour for some reason. I set the printer up using the gnome utility and cups, all the settings are set up for colour but the test page most definatly does not print in colour. Its not the ink cartridge because I just replaced that today.

What makes it even more frustrating is that I have some handouts I need to do for school within the next week, and they must be colour.

You may want to consider asking the Moderator to move this question to the Hardware forum, as it seems it's more of an equipment problem than it is a Slackware issue.

Keep in mind also that even in a "worst case scenario" you could just make a copy of those materials on a portable media device (floppy, pendrive, etc) and then take it to a copy shop. They should be able to print them out for you, and assuming you don't need hundreds of copies the cost should be pretty modest. -- J.W.

Just today I reinstalled slackware 9.1 on my laptop and then used cups, http://localhost:631, and setup my HP842C.

In the Manage Printers section there is an option for Output Mode:
You have greyscale, Black & White, Color, and Raw CMYK

If you're using cups, you might check that. Or if you're using some kde or gnome print thing, then you might check in there that you don't have black and white or draft or something selected.

Also, did you take the tape off of the ink cartridge head?

Just some thoughts...

Edit: oops, I see in your post that you are using cups. Dang, and I don't like it when other people don't read my threads more closely. Sorry.
