No boot signature in partition

I did "lilo -M /dev/sda"
It said installed. But On booting it gives error "no boot signature in partition".What about this?
Also,The debian 6 is installed in /dev/sda1 Slackware 14 in /dev/sda7
I can't boot slackware from Debian Grub loader although it is listed. It gives panic" and caps lock and scroll lock blink intermittently?

You can be able to use xor bootloader for an mbr and everything can work fine.
Make the partitions both bootable.

Maybe post the config file used upon installing lilo, or atleast the boot entries?
