no boot - error:IO port probe


ive try reinstalling several times however, everytime i boot linux, (9.1), the boot freezes when it gets to the line cs: IO port probe 0x0800-0x08ff

any ideas?

My machines don't probe this port
(in fact, I don't have any statements like
IO port probe in my dmesg) ... which
driver comes just before that?

here are the few lines before that
Yenta IRQ list 04b8, PCI irq11
Socket status: 30000006
Yenta IRQ list 06b8, PCI irq11
Socket status: 30000410
cardmgr[57]: watching 2 sockets
cs: IO port probe 0x0c00-0x0cff: clean.
cs: IO port probe 0x0800-0x08ff:

and thats it. this is on a Dell 600m (pentium m, 512 mb ram, cd-r/dvd drive etc.)
