Thanks for your reply. I got some information from there, but did not follow it to the letter.

You will need to download and install Glamor-EGL from the x11 driver page and possibly build, patch, and install it by hand.
Did that.

Apparently there are parts of X that need to be rebuilt to support the "glamoregl" driver as well as other portions with libmesa also such, as is this flag for the xf86-video-ati DRI driver.
Check.

You may also need this to be added to the xorg.conf file:
Code:
Section "Module"
        Load "dri2"
        Load "glamoregl"
EndSection

Section "Device"
        Identifier "radeonsi"
        Driver "radeonsi"
        Option "AccelMethod" "glamor"
EndSection
I have that section, but Xorg.0.log tells me 'Option AccelMethod not used'.

You way want to rebuild libmesa 9.1.4 or later with these flags also:
Code:
./configure CFLAGS="-O2" CXXFLAGS="-O2" \
            --prefix=/usr \
            --sysconfdir=/etc \
            --enable-texture-float \
            --enable-gles1 \
            --enable-gles2 \
            --enable-openvg \
            --enable-osmesa \
            --enable-xa \
            --enable-gbm \
            --enable-gallium-egl \
            --enable-gallium-gbm \
            --enable-glx-tls \
            --with-llvm-shared-libs \
            --with-egl-platforms="drm,x11" \
            --with-gallium-drivers="nouveau,r300,r600,radeonsi,svga,swrast" &&
I will see which can be added. With some of the options enabled the build failed.

Really, you need Driver "radeon" in xorg.conf
radeonsi is build by mesa with the --enable-xorg configure switch and it is not working.
I have a 7750 too and its working here with radeon.

            --with-gallium-drivers="nouveau,r300,r600,radeonsi,svga,swrast" &&
If you are at it already I would also add --enable-vdpau and switch to the 3.11 kernel line, so that you also get hardware video decoding and dynamic powermanagement.

Some things never change . . .

By the time you get a radeon driver & support programs compiled, they're out of date :-).

I gave it a quick try by having radeon as the driver in xorg.conf, but it crashed the X server with a segfault. Will try later after rebuilding mesa with the suggested options enabled.

Those who care about AMD Radeon open source graphic drivers can find the exciting news in this thread on the phoronix forum:

Got hardware acceleration working finally! See the scripts I modified here (glamor, Mesa, and Mesa with hardware acceleration for hd 7750): http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ml#post5017211

You can also enable glamor in the slackware sources x/x11/configure/configure file by adding --enable-glamor \

Couldn't get radeonsi driver to work (always ended up with software acceleration but maybe you'll have better luck) but got the radeon driver working with hardware acceleration. Unigine didn't run but gzdoom did (and I used custom modelines which never worked with FGLRX).

Cheers!

Thanks for providing the build scripts, I will give them a try. As posted above I got hardware acceleration working but not with the expected result. At the moment I have reverted to stock slackware-current because I had the impression that the system had become less stable.

Usually you kinda have to be careful with newer hardware with Linux. I often will give the kernel, XOrg, and Mesa developers at least 6-12 months before I even consider a newer video card. I've also learned to stay as far away from AMD graphics cards as possible due to the piss poor driver support they always seem to have, and go with tried and true Nvidia that somehow always manages to work.

It is getting better with recent kernels/Mesa and the performance is now up to 80% of the Catalyst driver. I myself was a victim of AMD's driver policy (obsoleting 2 years old hardware, only supporting half of the hardwares features) and I even opened a ranting thread about that here, but seriously, AMD has learned from that debacle, the free driver development goes much faster now and the developers react fast when you report a bug.

Yes, but the issue is AMD still likes to pass the buck, so to speak, to avoid any headaches when they screw up.

Nvidia has done fairly well at supporting older hardware, though with recent releases the 6x00/7x00 series has finally been pushed into Legacy support, or opted out to Nouveau, however this was mildly foreseen as both those chipsets were showing their age and fewer and fewer computers were using that series model of video chipsets.
