NFS and GConf Error w/ Gnome on new install of Slackware 9

I've gotten his error before, or one that was simmilar. I've forgotten if I fixed it or just ignored it.

When I installed Slackware 9.0 on my PC I got everything working again, Networking, Sound, NFSed /home, bla bla bla.

When I was satisfied everything was working good I went ahead and logged in as my normal user. Typed Startx.. then got this error:

"Please contact your system administrator to resolve the following problem:
Could not lock the file "/home/users/jon/.gconf-test-locking-file"; this indicates that there may be a problem with your operating system configuration. If you have an NFS-mounted home directory, ether the client or the server may be setup up incorrectly. See the rpc.stad and rpc.lockd documentation. A comon cause of this error is that the nfslock service has been disabled. The error was "No locks available" (errno = 37)."

The first thing I tried was removing my old configuration files. I deleted .gnome* .gconf* and eventualy .??*

No Help there. I did an ps -A and checked that lockd was indeed running. I checked my server's exports and I did not disable locking in any way.

I would hate to think that this means I can't use GNOME with an NFSed file system.

Any help would be most appreciated..

I figured it out... and I am SO F-ING PISSED.

Ok, I read about 50 diffrent documents/posts on diffrent webistes concering diffrent GConfig problems and saw alot about making sure rpc.lockd was running. Well when I tried to run RPC.LOCKD nothing happend.. no change... ZIP. Well then.. after digging around ALOT MORE I sumbled apoun gconf-1's doc that said make sure that rpc.statd was running to. I ran it on both my client and server and tada! Works.

So, if you get the above answer goto your server and your client and run rpc.statd It cleared up the problem for me.

Thx anyways guys.
