Newbie: GRUB ?

I'm new to the world of Linux but managed to set up a small webserver using the Slackware 10 distribution. The installation also gave me GRUB as a boot manager and I haven't got a clue what to do with it. As a result I boot the machine manually using the Slackware CD-ROM.

My question is: How do I setup GRUB so that is boots Linux automatically?

thanks, Rene

Welcome to LQ!

Slackware 10.0 and 10.1 default with LiLO.
How or where did you get GrUB?
In fact, I don't think GrUB is even included in
the Slackware distribution...

Really? well I did try an installation of Suse Linux before Slackware so that might explain its origin.

That does it exactly mate -- no grubs in Slackware. ;-)

Slackware uses LILO for the boot loader. IIRC it will
overwrite GrUB if you just boot the system, then open
a terminal, then su (switch user) to root, then issue
# liloconfig
and choose the option that's appropriate for you.

I've never tried simple -- just expert, which let's you
choose all the options.

On the Slack CD1 there is a file named Slackware-HOWTO
and Section 4.7 explains LILO.

If you need more help, please post the output of following:
# fdisk -l
$ df -h
so that we can guide you along...

you can boot slackware with grub. either compiled from source or a tgz the grub tgz i used installs grubconfig script which has a bug so i had to edit my menu.lst by hand instructions were in /usr/docs/grub-* If lilo works for you use it but id rather use grub.
