Yes I have slackware 10.0 installed and the only things that I have done so far are the adduser script and the alsaconf. I was wondering, I apologize for sounding like a moron, how do I get into a GUI working enviroment? I tried the startx or whatever it is and it says that I have no screen. Again, I am COMPLETELY new to Slackware, so please guide me in the easiest way possible.
Some knowledge of your hardware (graphics card
and screen) would aid us in assisting you ... chances
are that xorg fails to auto-detect the screen, or that
the default frame-buffer setup for some reason plain
doesn't want to work on your hardware.
then select the window manager that you want to try out (ie - Blackbox, Fluxbox, KDE, GNOME etc).
then do 'startx'
if you want to change your window manager, just exit your current window manager, then xwmconfig again and repeat until you've foudn the oen for you.
make sure you have all info regarding your video card and find out your monitors vertical and horizontal refresh rates. there is more but these ones are important.
once you finish just run startx and you should be sweet
you may end up having to use a default vesa and generic drivers, ati is NOTORIOUSLY bad about problems with linux. Man I wish I could yank my ati card out of my laptop and install something else. To bad it's intigrated. grrrrr
I ran xorgsetup and everything configured for me, and then I started the X and everything is working the way it should be. Thank you for all of your help!!!!!!!!!!!!
