New to Slack

Hello, I am a Slack :newbie:. I have just installed it on a Compaq Deskpro PII 400. It boots up fine, but after the LILO screen it divides the screen into three sections. All three have the image in them. If I start x it remains the same way. The only setting that I can think of that could have caused this during setuo was the one where you choose your resolution. Any help would be appreciated.

The default X config file uses Vesa, basically the same driver that's dealing with framebuffering from boot, reagardless you need to configure X:

X -configure

Then follow the steps it gives you, Slack never configs X for you.

The framebuffering issue on bootup: go into /etc/lilo.conf and chang the setting that looks like:
Code:

# Override dangerous defaults that rewrite the partition table:
change-rules
  reset
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x256
# vga = 773
# Normal VGA console
vga = normal
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x64k
# vga=791
# VESA framebuffer console @ 1024x768x32k
# vga=79

You can go to boring old vga=normal, which will almost no doubt work, but you may want to try one of the other possible modes, when you're finished just re-run LILO:

/sbin/lilo
