New Thinkpad crashes hard in Slackware 14

I am very sad. I have a new Thinkpad W530 which crashes sporadically in Slackware 14.0 on the stock kernel (3.2.29). I'm running XFCE and using LUKS (AES with AES-NI).

The crash is of the kind that locks up the keyboard, mouse and freezes the display. No kernel panic, no kernel oops, no errors in the system log after reboot. This has happened twice in two days. The system does not run particularly hot. The first crash happened with very light use, the second crash while compiling a program one one core.

From what I can see from dmesg I have the following interesting messages when booting:

I already have the latest BIOS for this computer.

Suggestions I can think of for myself are:

1: Try the latest kernel.
2: Disable discrete graphics card and run only on the integrated graphics system.
3: Run memtest86.

Any other suggestions, or (long shot, but one can hope) has anyone experienced a similar issue with the Thinkpad W530, or a similar laptop?

You are using nouveau driver. install yourself the blacklist-nouveau from the extras and if your computer has NVidia chip then install the NVidia binary blob.

The system does have an NVIDIA discrete graphics system in addition to the i915 integrated chipset. However, I'm not using Bumblebee, hence the NVIDIA system is not being used. Why do you suspect this is related to the Nouveau driver?

I had the same problem on my Thinkpad x230. There are a couple of posts on this forum with people having the same issue.
Just upgrade your kernel und everything should be fine.

Did this myself and I'm using 3.7.1 now. Works perfectly with my x230 docked in the Ultrabase Series 3.

I actually just tested out 3.7.2, but with that kernel KMS is bothering me. The display turns black when the system boots, although it turns back on when X has finished loading, II am however unable to use CTRL+ALT to jump to a virtual console. Did you experience any issues with KMS on your system?

No, my KMS is working fine. Maybe there is some issue with the nVidia driver. Can you disable the nVidia stuff in your bios and test it again?
