new slackware/linux user, question about package dependecies and ACPI

is there some location I can go to find out what packages depend on others? For instance, "man" requires a program nroff to exist but simply installing the man packages doesn't include this.

Is there a text file or webpage somewhere where its documented which packages I will need to install to resolve these types of dependencies?

The second question is that on all the other linux distributions I've tried, when I shutdown, my laptop turns off. However, slackware it doesn't. I've been reading and I believe it has something to do with ACPI support. I used the bareacpi.i kernel and I try to run acpid but it says "no such file" /proc/acpi/event

When I ls /proc I don't even see that acpi directory. Any reason for this? should I not have used the bareacpi.i kernel?

Thanks for the help!

I always use
Code:
ldd some_binary_file | grep "not found"
to see what shared libraries it was compiled against. Then I run the file names in the Slackware Packages site to see what package I was missing.

I am not an expert on acpi, but I would give the huge2.6 kernel a try, or compile your own with the proper support.

Which shutdown command do you use? There's a difference between "poweroff" "shutdown" etc. -- if you're shutting down from the CLI "poweroff" is what you want.

If you're shutting down from KDE, you'll have to find out where it gets its shutoff options; I use Enlightenment and shutdown from the menu always turns off the computer.
