New Slackware 9.1 Install & Boot Question
 

I've installed 9.1 fine.
I have a question about its booting though.
I have /hda - hard disk
/hdc - cdrom/writer
/hdd - dvdrom

when it boots, it sees these ok, but then keeps on looking for
/hde
/hdg

It obviously can't find these because they don't exist, but they waste about a minute of boot time doing it.

Does anyone know why this happens and how to stop it?

Does this happen before or after you see the LILO bootmenu ? Does your motherboard has an extra IDE-controller ?

Do you have any additional entries in your /etc/fstab table that might be looking for these? Something else you could do is go into your BIOS and see if there is any ide controllers enabled for these additional drives and DISABLE them. If you can't do that. maybe try turning off 'plug and play OS' in the BIOS.

It happens after lilo, because it is during the bootup sequence.
I have an A7n8x motherboard. Not sure about the extra IDe controller, the motherboard does have SATA but I have never done anything with it.?

SATA controllers take some of the designations. On some computers, SATA would be the first few, such as hda and hdb. On yours they appear to be the last (hde,hdf).

Is there a way to disable this then? I never had such a thing with my Gentoo install.

You can disable the SATA controller in the bios. If it's an AWARD bios, it'll be under the "Integrated Devices" menu.

You should try to disable the controllers you're not using - I guess we didn't ask you if you actually have any SATA drives? Or are they all just ATA?

I have only 1 hard disk at the moment. I am thinking of getting another one. I'm not really knowledgable about SATA, so I don't think I use it at all :p
I'll poke through the bios - I think it is an AWARD bios.
