Seeing as the slackpkg mirrors list hasn't been updated for quite a while, I've spent a (very) significant amount of time over the past couple of weeks trying to find new slackpkg mirrors, using the Arch Linux, Debian, and Fedora mirror lists as my guide (as well as the existing list). I'm satisfied that I've found enough mirrors to warrant testing from the Slackware community (although UK and US mirrors are notably missing at the moment, but I should finish investigating them within the next two days - my rationale for releasing an incomplete list is "release early, release often"). I encourage interested users to choose a country and try the mirrors listed for it, seeing if they're accessible and up to date, and if they have a ftp/http equivalent I haven't listed. I would also appreciate being sent any links to mirrors I haven't discovered yet, and information on whether they're up to date, only offer ix86, only offer Slackware-current, etc.
I've written informative comments about the mirrors beside those that aren't up to date (and those that only have the ix86 version), just in case they update before the release of Slackware 14.0. However, I'll exclude the ambiguous mirrors from the rc, which, all being well, will be exactly the same as the final release. (Hopefully there will be only one beta after this alpha.)
I've set myself a deadline of a final version by the end of next week (although the sooner the better, seeing as the release of Slackware 14.0 is imminent), and will submit it to Pat for him to recompile with Slackpkg.
In any case, go forth and test!
@jaycee4 - Thankyou very much for your efforts. The mirror listings for Australia look good to me; there are even some I have not seen before.
@ponce - The problem with the listings at Slackware.com is they do not include mirrors in other countries such as mine (Australia). If you had ever tried doing large updates (e.g. KDE) from a mirror in a foreign country from here, you would know why a good local mirror is a very useful resource.
Hello once more fellow Slackers!
Forgive my delay for releasing the beta - the past few days have been quite busy, and searching for US mirrors has been... rather intense, as can be seen by looking at the new long list. Nonetheless, I present you all with a list of mirrors that is essentially complete! Or, perhaps more aptly, overly complete - I'll be trimming the list of mirrors where there haven't been recent updates, or mirrors that appear to be duplicates, for the release candidate. I'm contemplating issuing multiple rcs, but that will depend on the success of my review of mirrors and my mood. Also, it looks as though Pat's eager to release Slackware 14.0 very soon, and I don't intend to keep him waiting (or, more to the point, I don't expect him to wait for me). I want to complete my next release by Tuesday.
This beta is largely similar to the alpha. Indeed, I only considered the previous list to be of alpha quality as it wasn't code complete. The release candidate(s) will look a little different, pretty much having the appearance of the current official slackpkg mirror list, as the notes will be removed. Also, I'll preemptively list Slackware-14.0 mirrors, and I'll issue separate lists for x86 and x86_64, although I'm not sure what to do about armedslack... I think I'll leave it to Pat to contemplate.
Test and enjoy!
@allend Thank you for your appreciation, it makes my efforts all worthwhile!

On the subject of mirrors, I'm sure many do this already but I cannot recommend enough using Eric's mirror-slackware-current.sh script to create a local mirror on another machine on your network, and then using your personal mirror to install/upgrade Slackware. I have a small fanless box that runs Eric's script from cron every night and is also configured as an internal ftp server. So I just plug in my box's IP address during setup and the install is super quick.
It's here! It's finally here!
Although it took me quite a bit longer than I expected, I've prepared the release candidate for each of the x86 architectures. Fortunately for my sanity, I don't intend to issue any more release candidates, as I can't see any problems with my lists, and if there are any, they're sure to be minor. So great is my confidence that I actually emailed them to Pat last night! That said, I can still be proven wrong (after all, I turned to beer to keep me going towards the end, which may have adversely affected my ability to notice mistakes), so I urge all interested users to have a peek and test their mirrors of interest.
I extend my thanks and appreciation to all the users that helped by testing the list and notifying me of errors. That my efforts are noticed and are useful to fellow Slackers makes it all worthwhile.
