Question New Slack user

Hi all,

I have been running Debian (testing/sid) for the last couple of years. I downloaded the Slack 12.2 DVD and installed Slack on my computer. Slack is the only OS on it. I have an Nvidia 8600GT video card. I downloaded the driver from Nvidia and installed it. My video card supports 1680x1050 resolution. No matter what I do, I cannot seem to get Slackware to remember this setting. It always refers back to 1024x768 after a reboot. I did the nvidia-xconfig and no luck. I edit xorg.conf and added "1680x1050" and no luck. Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Thank you. ( I love the Speed of this distro! )

Mike

Have you checked the configured resolutions in your xorg.conf for your default color depth?
Maybe you can try with only that resoltuion configured and all other commented out.

Or have a look at the monitor section:

add

Quote:
Option "DPMS"
and comment out the fixed values for the refresh rates.

Run 'nvidia-settings' as root, change settings, and export to xorg.conf.

If you run this command, what do you get:
xrandr -s 1680x1050

Another thought: are you using KDE? If yes, then open the KDE Control Center.

Select Peripherals.
Select Display.
Select the Size & Orientation tab.
Select the correct Screen size.
Enable/check the Apply settings on KDE startup check box.
Select the Apply button.

su
nvidia-settings

set your resolution and any antialiasing overrides, etc. then save to Xorg is what I've always done with any distro...of course you have to be doing this as root to modify your xorg at save.
