Originally posted by MasterPatricko From my experience 6629 didn't work with my nVidia Riva TNT2. Does this new one (7167) work with TNT2's or do I have to stick with 6111 still?
Honestly I don't know, I retired my old TNT2 long ago.
Originally posted by Seiken In xorgconfig I set my VideoRAM to 64MB, but in my xorg.conf the line is commented out. Should I uncomment it?
Na, the VideoRam is optional as the Xorg server "should" automatically determine the amount of ram on your video card. However, some drivers may need it to be set. I've always set the VideoRam option "just in case". The readme file for the nVidia driver should say whether or not you need to set the VideoRam option.
p.s. I don't use xorgconfig, I edit my xorg.conf file by hand.
Originally posted by Hammett For me new drivers don't compile. They complain about missing the kernel source, but even if I specify the path to the soruce, ti complains again. The only solution is to load agpgart module, and then, drivers compile. This is weird, cause I don't use agpgart, but nvidia. The new drivers worked poorly compared with 6629, so I switched back to them.
I have some problems with the nVidia 1.0-7167 drivers running Slackware 10.1, Kernel 2.6.10 and GF ti4200 card. The drivers installed and X starts fine, the problem is when i shutdown X. I get a blur of colors and don't return correct to the console. Any ideas?
Hmmm... I'm also running Slack 10.1 with kernel 2.6.10 and use a GeForce Ti4200 :-) How much RAM does your GeForce own? Mine has got 128 MB, and I didn't encounter any problems here. Did you have this problem with 1.0-6629 driver also? DId you perhaps change anything else than the nvidia drivers?

Is your CLI running in a VESA mode? I had the same issue with the 6629 drivers. As soon as I switched my text mode to standard VGA, everything was fixed. I upgraded to the new ones though (7167?) and now everything is fine (ie: I can use VESA framebuffer). My card is a GF2 MX400.

Thanks!
changing to vga = normal solved the problem
Greeting from the New user corner. Well a little bit of hacking and some big fun, and had to kill the system. One strange note. for some reason something reset my bios to show my Seagate ST31000A 30GB HDD to look like a 528MB drive and crashed the entire setup. Was trying to get the Parallel Ports enabled and also a few other things. Then it just locked up. Rebooting gave me the 40 40 40 40 40 40 screen, was using the Journaling Format for large drive not small partitions like it usually does. Worked fine for 2 days and then had to FDisk and lose everything and am currently in XP again till I can get the situation worked out, I am missing Slackware throughly now and do not want to stay with this lousy OS (Windows XP) that seems to be Proprietary.
Originally posted by tuxombie I get a black screen although compilation is okay.
Well I took all referances of the nVidia drivers out and set some special perameters in my xorg.conf for my display, and without the nVidia Drivers I am running 1280x1024 24bit color. Or Millions of colors. With the drivers installed it crashed the display a few times. So that is when I looked for the Monitor settings, so I could have it without the drivers. Need some tips, somewhere here I have a post that explains how.
hi guys, have just bought myself a GEForce 6200 from PNY, and installed the 7167 drivers that were with Linux Format 67.
I altered xorg.conf according to the README, and re-started X.
Strange thing happened though;
X started, went to GDM but it was VERY dark, and the resolution was screwed up.
I had to reboot and fallback to the vesa drivers to run X!
Have got an AMD 64 3000+ running slack 10.1 standard install and bareacpi kernel. Card is PNY GeForce 6200 256MB AGP 8x.
I'm an experienced slack user have been with slack since 7.0 on various boxes, so it's unusual for me to run into problems with it. The only thing I can think of is possibly an AGPGart problem/conflict.
