hi!
when i installed slack 10.2 i had no problems with videodrivers, they were detected automatically (i have radeon 9200se). does it mean that everything will be ok in the every next new kernel?

If you don't use the propietary ATI (or NVidia) drivers, everything should stay fine . If you do use propietery ATI drivers from the ATI site, you will have to recompile the kernel module after every kernel upgrade.

By default, Slack uses the opensource driver.

This is good because Slack is good for learning. Don't be afraid because it's a very strong and stable distro.
For the thread subject, i'm really sorry you have an ATI card, because ATI is nothing but crap when you intend to use ATI drivers in order to have a powerful 3D. If you have a NVIDIA around, use it. ATI is lying for years, pretending they will do good drivers, but installing it is A PAIN. Recently, i have to switch back to an one-year-old kernel just to have TV-out enabled.
