New kernel 2.6.33 and Nvidia Kernel module

Hi, after i change kernel to 2.6.33, X can not start. OS shows information that there is no nvidia kernel module. My friend told me that i should reinstall Nvidia drivers. Is it right idea? During configuration i could not find any options that will install nvidia kernel module.

I must have answered similar questions half a dozen times. Did you search for threads before posting?
What you do next depends on how you installed the nvidia kernel module.

Yes you have to reinstall the nvidia drivers.

Yes, reinstall Nvidia driver every time you upgrade kernel or xorg.
Some nvidia drivers needed to be patched to work with 2.6.33 but we don't know what version you're using or your video card model.
I tried the latest experimental one (NVIDIA-Linux-x86-195.36.15) with kernel 2.6.33.1 and it didn't need to be patched to work.
here's a post similar to yours, check it out, use search or ask again if you need help.

As of 19/3 looks like 195.36.15 is now the RELEASE version.
Running it here on 2.6.33.1 and all look ok at first sight.

No patch necessary as MannyNix says.

195.36.15 works on 2.6.34 as well. No patches required.

When you have multiple kernels you can use the
Code:
-K
option on the NVIDIA installer to install just the kernel module for that particular kernel when the driver is already installed. I believe there is an option to install the module for kernels other than the one running as well, but I usually don't worry about it unless I find a reason to boot into one of the older kernels so I'm not positive.

If you are asking will the new driver work on a kernel older that 2.6.33 I would guess the answer is yes since most distros aren't running the newest stable kernel yet, but I can't answer that for certain.

Yes, like damgar suggests, you can install the nvidia module into multiple different kernels; the catch is, you have to be installing the SAME version of the nvidia driver, on all kernels.

To see what-all options the nvidia installer accepts, run it like so:

Code:
sh <name-of-driver>.pkg.run --help
This will give you a couple options; one of them is the "Advanced" listing; if you use that option, it will tell you the options you need to use for installing an nvidia driver on both your old kernel and/or your new one, at the same time. Otherwise, the default behavior is to only have the driver installed onto one kernel at a time.

Yes, you have right. I should use -K parameter to install only kernel module.
