New installation 14.1, no systray in KDE

OK, I give up. Just installed Slackware 14.1, went to the generic kernel, fired up startx... and there's no systray. Details of my install, to date, are in my blog. Any ideas how to troubleshoot next? FVWM seems to work OK. This is my xorg.conf:
Code:

Section "ServerLayout"
        Identifier    "aticonfig Layout"
        Screen      0  "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0" 0 0
EndSection

Section "Module"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
        Identifier  "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
        Option      "VendorName" "ATI Proprietary Driver"
        Option      "ModelName" "Generic Autodetecting Monitor"
        Option      "DPMS" "true"
EndSection

Section "Device"
        Identifier  "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
        Driver      "fglrx"
        BusID      "PCI:1:0:0"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
        Identifier "aticonfig-Screen[0]-0"
        Device    "aticonfig-Device[0]-0"
        Monitor    "aticonfig-Monitor[0]-0"
        DefaultDepth    24
        SubSection "Display"
                Viewport  0 0
                Depth    24
        EndSubSection
EndSection

but this problem existed prior to installing the ati drivers and with no xorg.conf.

Just right click on the default bottom panel and click "Add Widget". Then select "System tray" from the list of available KDE widgets.

Thanks, I guess I had to "Add Default Panel", and add the KDE launcher. I didn't see a Systray widget. Is this new behavior for KDE that I missed somewhere?

No, not at all. I'm guessing the problem can be found in:

But since I don't see a link anywhere, I'm assuming you did something that broke KDE/Plasma.

I installed 14.1 this week and KDE works great.

Nah, didn't do anything to break KDE, just installed Slackware, by "my blog" I mean my LQ blog, ie http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...rmless-386558/
