new install acting funny (lilo and firefox-sound)

Hmm, ok, i'm on a new 10.1 install at the moment.. Lilo loads fine, but as soon as i select my OS, it says
boot:
Loading ................................
displays 38 dots, but REALLY slowly.. takes about 15/20 seconds for that.. and then it moves on to load slack. In my old laptop, that procedure used to take a split second. I took the same kernel config from there, changed a few things (cpu and chipset type) and that's it.. everything else works like a charm. But am i missing anything?

And firefox.. sheesh.. this is new.
Every link i go to, i get a weird buzzing sound from my speakers, like "BZZZWP!". I'm on XFce, and i don't see anywhere to edit or disable sounds from firefox or xfce .. Any suggestions?

EDIT
lol.. the sound is form the NoScript extension.. that's solved But still .. lilo is confusing me.

Thanks.

Try adding compact option in lilo.conf and re-run lilo.
Just add a line with: compact
