Angry Network/Wireless? Problem in 12.1

New Slacker with a newbie issue.

I installed Slackware 12.1 a few days ago. When I first installed everything worked fine after I used dhcpcd for the correct interface.

X windows was not configured properly so I began to mess with xorgconfig. After making X windows unbootable, I used xorgsetup, rebooted and everything looked great.

But now firefox no longer works ,except for a select few websites (Konqueror work fine), and irssi can no longer connect to irc.freenode.net. iwconfig and ifconfig look good to my virgin eyes. I can still ping everything fine.

Is it possible that messing with X windows configuration screwed with network settings somehow? Or just a coincidence...

I don't know if this will make a difference, but you could try blacklisting the ipv6 module which causes some people trouble. Add the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist:
Code:
blacklist ipv6
You must reboot in order for this to take effect. If you don't want to reboot, you could try removing the module manually using either
Code:
# modprobe -r ipv6
or
Code:
# rmmod ipv6

You will probably find Alien Bob's wiki helpful. It contains detailed instructions on Slackware networking.
