Need help to setup USB Gamepads
Hi folks, i´m pretty new to Slackware (and Linux in common). I managed to get alot of things working on my own but i can´t quite find a good explanation for installing gamepads anywhere.
I got 2 of em. A Gravis GamePad Pro and a PS2-Dual-shock(connected through an USB-Adapter, i read in an other post those should work too). If i could get any of em to work that would be fine. Even better if its the PS2 one. ;) To start, i have a full Slackware 9.1 installation. I think the kernel-options for HID, joystick support, etc are enabled. I´m not sure though. didn´t change anything since i´m not sure how to recompile. I only know how to get in the make menuconfig dialog. I´d like to use the gamepad for Zsnes, wich is also installed and working fine now. My first guess was to try out every single jsx device with "cat /dev/input/jsX" but none of them seemed to respond. Can anyone tell me what to do now? |
RE
I have the Gravis Gamepad and I have it connected before I turn pc on and it loads it for me. I am running Slack 9.1
|
not for me. :(
but i have multiple USB Devices. Does it matter wich port it is in? |
What version of Slack are you running? I am running 9.1. If you are running an older version of Slack, what kernel?
|
Like my Post said. 9.1. Kernel 2.4.22
|
i got it. just had to load the joydev and hid modules. Both pads are working now.
That brings up another question of mine. Where should i put extra modules? Many people refer to the /etc/modules file but i couldn't find it either in my old SUSE installation or my new Slackware 9.1 one. For now i helped myself with placing modprobes in /etc/rc.d/rc.local . Is this the right solution? |
check out /etc/rc.d/rc.modules
its a startup script used to load modules. A lot (but not all) of the modules are already listed there, you just need to uncomment them. |
How do you actually install USB hardwares to the pc in slackware??
I find it extremely hard to find a way to do it!! Anyone?? Suggestions?? |
