Need help getting graphics in "links" browser

When I ran Mandrake 9.1 I could type in "links-graphic" and could get pictures using the Links browser. Loved it! Can't get it to work in Slackware, though. I read a post that suggested " links -driver fb " but it gives me the following error.

tigerflag@localhost:~$ links -driver fb
Could not initialize graphics driver fb:
Could not get VT mode.

Any advice? (Running Slackware 9.1)

TIA,
Siri Amrit

hi...
compile your kernel with framebuffer support....that should help I guess ^^
assuming you mean the same version as I do (http://atrey.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~clo...nks/index.html)
regards ^^

Sorry to take so long to get back to this. Family in town, I can hardly get to the computer.
Thanks for the link. I seem to have all the required libraries to run it in graphics mode.I'm going to re-install with the options to --enable-graphics --enable-javascript

I haven't ever compiled a kernel before. Finally just got everything _exactly_ the way I like it. Only took me three years of messing with Linux to get to this point. Maybe it's time to break it all ...

Peace,
Siri Amrit

I just tried it out on my machine..

links -g -mode 800x600x32k

that worked for me.. I could only do it as root though, if I tried as a non-privilaged user I got:
svgalib: Cannot get I/O permissions.

yes....this is one ugly thing I haven't found a workaround...

I just tried it, and ..
/dev/fb0 is owned by root, group is tty, those two have +rw acces ...
so either chmod +rw /dev/fb0
or better add the user to group tty, or chown root.sys /dev/fb0

links -driver fb now works for me in a tty
but links -g tries to use svgalib.. that does not work here.. I tried some drivers in ~/.svgalibrc but it did not work. Always "Cannot get I/O permissions".

Help please..

I downloaded the latest version from linen0ise's link and compiled it with the --enable-graphics and --enable-javascript options. The command "links -driver fb didn't work. I got errors of command not found, could not initialize graphics driver fb, could not get VT mode. BUT...

Fang's command: links -g -mode 800x600x16k WORKS! I'm writing this from Links now. IMHO, Links renders pages faster and prettier than Dillo, at least the pages I visit.

Thanks everybody. Y'all have a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, and Blessed New Year :-)
Peace!

The I/O permissions thing happens when you are using a regular user.. try using the -g option as root
