Need help accessing a Win printer.
At school we have a win network (group: ws). There is a laser printer connected to one of the computers (computer: "maq6b"). I am trying to print from my slackware 12.1 box to that printer (hpLaserJ).
If I go to system and choose remote places and then samba shared, I see the group (ws) but when I click to open and see shared folders, nothing is shown and after a while a message appears saying "Time out". On the other hand, from the win side, I can see the folder I've chosen to share in Linux and can access it. What I want is to be able to access the rest of the computers and also be able to print from Slackware to the Win printer. group: ws Computer with printer connected (parallel port): maq6b (dynamic IP not static) Slackware computer: Slackware9b Printer: hpLaserJ This doesn't happened from an Ubuntu box. It opens and shows shared computers and can also print. Of course, I am configuring something wrong in Slackware. So, I would really appreciate if you could help me. Thank you! Glore2002.- |
Here is a link to the CUPS manual dealing with printing to a Windows server. As mentioned in the manual, there are two ways to do it, but I have always preferred the Samba method:
