ndiswrapper module doubt

Hi all,

i'm trying to get my wireless card working here. I have a linksys wusb11 v4 (kind of old), and the first thing i did was using ndiswrapper to install the driver.

ndiswrapper -l shows me the driver is installed an that the device is present:

wusb11v4 : driver installed
device (13B1:000B) present

But iwconfig doesn't show any wireless extensions... So, someone told me i was supposed to load the ndiswrapper module. Something like:

modprobe ndiswrapper if_name=wlan0

That tells me the ndiswrapper module could not be found. I'm using the default kernel that comes with slackware 12.

Loading this module is really necessary? And if so, isnt there a precompiled kernel that has this feature enabled?

Thanks, Milosevic.

Yes, you definitely need the module. I don't understand how you could have installed ndiswrapper without installing the module (probably your ndiswrapper was built for a different kernel). The best way to install is to build it using the SlackBuild at http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/ndiswrapper or http://slackbuilds.org/repository/12...k/ndiswrapper/.

Both should compile without a hitch, and the resulting package can be installed with "installpkg". This will install the module for whatever kernel you're running as well as the utilities. After that, just do "modprobe ndiswrapper".
