Question Nautilus + slow access to mounted drives

Hi all -

Recently I have been experiencing problems with Nautilus hanging for 30-60 seconds while trying to access mounted drives (CDROM, IEEE1394, etc).

From the terminal I could 'cd' into the mount points and 'ls', 'cp', 'mv' etc without trouble or hangs.

But from Nautilus, every double click on a folder took another 30-60 seconds to show the contents, longer for folders which contained many sub-dirs or files.

After a reboot the problem goes away.

This issue started after tinkering with Samba and making various connections over the past week to my windows laptop. I know this issue must have to do with some config file that is referencing SMB mount points, but I just don't know what. I removed all nautilus metafiles which referenced SMB mount points, editied ~/.gtk-bookmarks and cleared that... all to no avail.

But, a reboot fixed it... but for how long... i'll have to monitor it now.

Any ideas?

Scott

yes...

i also am having that problem, but with ubuntu 10.04 and up. i also believe it is a nautilus/gnome issue. no other distro i have used seems to cause this. with ubuntu 9.10 and before it is very fast to open mounted drives. very annoying.

thanks, MIKE...

This seems to be a problem with nautilus not being able to find a disk that it has previously mounted, I sometimes mount my mac disk over ssh and if I forget to unmount it before switching off the mac nautilus bogs down only logout/reboot seems to work though a killall nautilus can get nautilus moving until i again try to access the missing disk.
