thank you so much that actually got it working, I have no idea why/what would have changed it but thank you so much and pleasant slacking

Great! By "that" I take it the ownerships were not correct in the mysql/mysql/ directory?

exactly the ownerships were root:root so changing the owner and group to mysql worked
