my computer hang after installing kde4.1

hi
after installing kde4.1 and when startx
i got my pc hang
i did as it in readme file
Quote:
You'll need to uninstall *all* qt and kde apps, including qt, qca, qca-tls,
and knemo. These packages may *NOT* be co-installed with the stock qt/kde
and friends packages in Slackware. It wouldn't hurt to run both the
"remove-kde3.sh" and "remove-kde4.sh" scripts to start off with a clean
slate.

Before installing these packages, if you have not already had previous kde4
packages from here installed, you'll need to remove (and backup) /etc/kde
(rm -rf /etc/kde) and backup your $HOME/.kde/ directory. I recommend
doing "cp -a $HOME/.kde $HOME/.kde3" in case you want to move back to kde3
later on. Also, you might want to consider starting without a $HOME/.kde
to avoid strange configurations caused by using kde3 config files with
kde4, but you'd also lose your bookmarks, cookies, and other preferences.
The upgrade here was done with an old .kde directory in place, but there
were a few things that needed ajdustments after that. Starting with a
fresh .kde produces a cleaner initial desktop.

Once you've done all of the above, install these packages as shown below.
Be sure to run "xwmconfig" as your user account afterward.

From the /testing/packages/kde4/ directory, use this command:

upgradepkg --install-new deps/*.tgz extragear/*.tgz kde/*.tgz kde3-compat/*.tgz
i dont know where is the problem
i remove qt and the other packages
i did upgrade to slackware-current
when booting i see error msg before login

try uninstalling KDE4 with the script and then reinstalling it. make sure to run xwmconfig AFTER the installation. if you go straight to the graphical login, then at the lilo prompt press TAB and put the option you want to boot and add "telinit 3" (without quotes) to the end. that'll keep it in a konsole with no X. hope you get it all working!

oh! i see what you're saying. the same thing happened to me. i believe it's just an internal error with one of the packages. i had to uninstall kde4 and reinstall kde3.xx to get a desktop back. i personally don't think KDE4 is ready to be a main-stream desktop yet anyway. from my experiances, it's way to buggy. also you must remember, the kde4 packages are in the testing part of the slackware mirror. it can be installed, but it is not garunteed to run. im thinking that slackware 12.2 (whenever and if-ever it comes out) will have an option to install kde4. but until then, stick with kde3.5.x. if you really want to try a kde4 desktop, try either fedora 9 or the kubuntu kde4 remix. both are very solid and the kubuntu kde4 remix you can just use as a live cd. one thing you could also do is build kde4 from source.

it might be your vga, but also try editing your xorg.conf. how many mgbs is your graphics card? it seems to me that you need atleast 32. i tried on my laptop which has 8 (i know it sucks) and it failed like yours did. but when i installed it on a laptop with a 128, it worked fine(i had to remove it and go back to windows as it was my brothers lol). it also might be your driver for the video card. do you use ati, nvidia, savage or a different kind?

well, i wouldnt get a COMPLETELY new card unless you need one. i recommend just rebuilding the ati drivers. see if that will fix your problem first.

hey. you're welcome . well, now that you've got a better graphics card, start using the 3d desktop features and start gaming it up! and sadly, i don't think pat will return your money.
