A couple of years ago, in SuSE I think using Gnome my buttons did work, I'm specially interested in my sound control button which should mute my sounds if pressed, or raise/lower my volumes if I turn it left/right. Currently I'm using Dropline Gnome, mingled with the Keyboard options in Preferences but couldn't find anything. I'm thinking it should work somehow knowing it did so long time ago, but what's the cache ? If someone could point the road I would greatly appreciate it. Thx.

Have you tried the Keyboard shortcuts tool under "Desktop/Preferences/Keyboard Shortcuts"? If your keyboard is a standard multimedia keyboard that doesn't require any special programming, then it should work fine.

got it working, thanks. i know that under destkop - preferences - keyboard shortcuts i needed to bind the keys, but my additional buttons waren't recognized, untill i recompiled my kernel and added support for it that is :P.
