multichannel audio soundcards and Linux

I'm guessing the Venn diagram of Slackware users who also do computer music is a few points, but...

I mostly do computer music, and I've been really happy with my delta 1010LT. It's been discontinued, though.

Any recommendations? Looking like all the M-Audio sound cards have been discontinued, as well. My card's still working fine, but I'd like to have options in case it dies.

well you can still buy the same card second hand even if it is discontinued?

I wouldn't trust something that was already used. I didn't have much luck finding another as a spare, either. I'm more interested in other options, so I'm not stuck with all my eggs in one basket, as it were.

Is the card mostly for making music, or just playback?

If its for just playback, have a look at the asus cards, they are very nice and mostly well supported-

Some of them might work for music production, depending on what level you are doing it at. ;)

Heh, thanks, but I do computer music (csound, puredata, LISP, etc). I asked on the csound mailing list, and a few USB sound devices were recommended. Last time I tried one was before the advent of udev and hal, so it was kind of a pain to get one working, but I'm told it's cake now. Hopefully my delta 1010LT lasts awhile. It's a nice card for the price.
