Linux Mint 18.2 is still based on the older Ubuntu LTS, so i guess we will have to wait for Linux Mint 19 development before we can see that changes introduced.
MATE now support multiple GTK+3 versions, while Cinnamon only support a single GTK+3 version used in Mint. That's a big difference. That's why in MATE a simple bump to 3.22.x should fix the layout with newer GTK+3. |
Cinnamon 3.4 has been tagged in the github. I will wait until all components are bumped into 3.4 before reporting back the results

Mint-X and Y doesn't work with GTK+3 3.20+ at this moment, so you may need to switch back to the default theme for now until someone fixed it upstream. This is the answer i got from upstream devs
