mplayer problem New_Face failed. Maybe the font path is wrong

hi! Mplayer worked great untill i wanted to changed untill now

I want to use in mplayer font arial cp1250 instead of default one

so now i copied arial cp1250 to /usr/share/mplayer
created symbolic link font to it
Code:
ls -l /usr/share/mplayer/
total 8
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root      root   18 2009-01-12 21:36 font -> font-arial-cp1250//
drwxr-xr-x 6 matters12 1000 4096 2003-07-14 02:02 font-arial-cp1250/
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 2009-01-12 15:27 skins/
Now when i want to play avi with srt subtitle it gives me:
Code:
New_Face failed. Maybe the font path is wrong. 1 ??% ??% ??,?% 0 0
Please supply the text font file (~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf).
subtitle font: load_sub_face failed.
A: 4.7 V: 4.7 A-V: -0.000 ct: 0.002 113/113 13% 4% 1.2% 4 0
What can i do to fix the problem?

THanks!

It's looking for a file ending in .ttf. You need to move (or link) one of the font files in that folder to ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf

figured that out but it still does not provide srt character set of language that i wish. how can i determine in wish srt file are encoded wether its cp 1250 or some other?

thanks!

problem solved by putting actual font name instead of path to the font
