MPlayer demux error when playing DVD's + Now has killed VLC...

Whenever I try to skip a chapter while watching a DVD I get this error
MPlayer interrupted by signal 11 in module: demux_open. whats worse is now when I try to use VLC (which was working before) I get the same error, when I launch from command line I get this error in vlc
[0x253cea8] main demux error: possibly corrupt module cache.

I googled around and couldn't find anything that was current or relevant to this situation. I tried this with the "nv" driver "nvidia" proprietary driver both with same results. My only clue so far is I tried switching from VDPAU to Xv and mplayer crashed with a seg fault.

Any help is appreciated. I'm going to keep googeling

Tell you one thing I built this from sbopkg I read all the stuff to build it It took a half hour and found one extra dependency to build everything.
I have had no problems like before. I was having the same problem with slack 13 but I built most of the kdenlive dependency's
to get the stuff working then I found kdenlive so I could edit stuff.
This is when I woke up to more stuff need for different formats.
and of course the M$ DLL files.
if you build it all then reboot you will be happy.
I have.
Good luck

First, try running vlc from the commandline once with this command:

Code:
vlc -v --reset-plugins-cache
If that did not help, then become root and:
Code:
cd /usr/lib/vlc
./vlc-cache-gen -f .
If you are on 64-bit Slackware, you should of course "cd /usr/lib64/vlc" instead.

Thanks Eric. I actually decided to just reformat since I wanted to move to a larger hard drive anyway. So the VLC part is fixed. I am definitely going to bookmark this post just in case it happens again. But MPlayer is still basically useless for DVD play back, if I skip ahead I get "missing picture start code, guessing missing values" if i try to use the GUI slider to move forward in the movie then I get "frame sync error". I am still googling around for a fix but haven't found anything yet.

*update*
I tested gnome-mplayer and it works fine. So I have narrowed it down to just MPlayer, the hunt continues.
