mplayer borked

After I upgraded to X.org and recompiled my kernel (unrelated), the mozilla mplayer plugin doesn't play movies, and when I play mplayer from command line, my screen gets all blurry and it freezes. I tried reinstalling the mplayer binary with removepkg and installpkg...No luck. This is the 2nd odd problem I have had when going to X.org. Maybe should I try installing mplayer from source? And BTW, I also reinstalled my NVIDIA drivers.

It's possible it's a problem with X.org.... it really messed up my laptop and I am a little worried to try using it again till they iron it out.

If you are running -current you may need to recompile MPlayer from source if the version you have installed is dependent on libcurl. From the ChangeLog:

n/curl-7.12.0-i486-1.tgz: Upgraded to curl-7.12.0. This uses a new
major shared library version number (.so.3), so all libcurl linked
programs will need to be recompiled.

Xfree 4.4 is available on the Slackware ftp site under the unsupported tab.

ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/dist.../XFree86-4.4.0

download the packages, just do

removepkg x11

go to the download directory and type

installpkg xfree*
