Moving Slackware between Computers

Ok, does Slackware have any probs if i install it on one computer, and then put the drive into another computer???

i wanna put it on my PC 'Wizard' but i don't have a CD ROM or Floppy drive on it...so i'll have to put the hard drive into another computer to install something on it..

and would slackware support my Transend USB Thumbdrive and Welland External CD Rom Drive???

and how much space does the latest version take up?? at the moment i only have a 5Gb drive...

If you use the generic kernel, chances are that should work fine, you may need to tune xorg if ir is not
the same video card, alsaconf for different sound card etc...

5 GB although a little small should be enough to contain the whole install, with all packages
installed, my / is 4,71 GB size. You may not want to install kde tough... Take in account the swap
file and separate /home if any..

you should be fine, i mean, you just need enough to get it to boot on the target machine and give you a shell... from there you can edit the configuration (modules, X, etc.) to suit the target, as usual... even if you don't know what modules you need on the target, you could use hotplug to auto-detect them...

hardware support is the kernel's department... slackware uses a vanilla kernel, so anything supported by the official linux kernel should be supported by slackware...

i don't know about this particular hardware, but i'm sure someone else does... have you checked the LQ hardware compatibility list??

i think 10.0 takes about 2.8gb if you do a default full install... you can, however, have a very complete custom install with under 1gb...

Hmmm.....that only leaves about 200mb for other files....

and i have a 256mb thumbdrive and a 512mb thumbdrive...

i have just read about 'damnsmalllinux'....that may be a better option...either that or an older version of Slackware...

Thought you said you have a five gig drive? It was said that you can do an install in under a gig and have a running system. That leaves you at least 4000 megabytes (minus swap)

ok, i guess i should've posted this to begin with (this is my 3rd thread today...)
i have never really used Linux before...

"give you a shell" "modules, X, etc."

mean almost nothing to me....

i gave Red Hat 9.1 i try on my main comp a little while ago...and gave up when, if i would try to install drivers for my network card it says that the drivers were already installed...and if i tried to uninstall them it would say that they were installed!!!!!!!!!!! i think i screwed it up

Well, i've installed Slackware 10 on a 2 gb hd, running X. You don't need to much space if you know which packages to install. If you want a distro that's small and 100% compatible with Slackware, try http://www.amigolinux.org/ or install Slackware without installing KDE and Gnome, remove other things you're not going to need, like MySQL, Apache, Python,etc..

If you refer to my root partition (4.71 GB), I have /var/swaret (700 MB) and flightgear (200 MB) with
all window manager insalled also 2 full kernel tree and some more stuff in it. I think the install should
take more or less 3 GB.

you only need the first two (install) cds... the third and fourth contain the source code...

panter, cds 1 & 2 are the only 2 needed to install Slackware (actually you could use only cd 1, because 2 contains just KDE & GNOME), 3 & 4 are sources for all the apps, you don't need them to install they're there just if you want to modify them.
