Mouse pointer moves up and down when mouse moved side to side

My logitech g7 mouse which works problem free on my windows setup is acting very strange on my linux setup. If i move the mouse up and down the mouse pointer doesnt move at all, whereas if i move my mouse side to side the mouse pointer responds by moving up and down:confused:.. do you have any ideas how i can fix this??
thnks

hustla,

The problem is likely in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file in this section.

Code:

Section "InputDevice"
        Identifier  "Mouse0"
        Driver      "mouse"
        Option            "Protocol" "auto"
        Option            "Device" "/dev/mouse"
        Option            "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7"
EndSection

Try running xorgsetup from the konsole to see if that fixes it. If not, then try google. For your mouse the numbers in the last option need to be changed.

Did you figure this out? I have exactly the same problem in KateOS 3.1 and playing around with xorg.conf hasn't helped.

Hi, I have found the following helpful to configure a lot of different mice.

Alas, that didn't work for me. The gentoo site is nice, but I don't have a mouse that is listed, so I am not sure what to change. I have a Dell cordless mouse. All I can figure out is that the movement of the mouse is interpreted as moving the scroll wheel as well as vertical movement of the pointer. It's quite a puzzle.
