Mouse doesn't work right...

I'm not sure what I need to do to fix it, but here's my problem:
1. Moving the mouse vertically moves the cursor laterally.
2. Moving the mouse laterally does nothing.
3. The scroll wheel does nothing.

I have another mouse that works, but it's too small, and I don't like it.

The mouse is Microsoft Optical 1025,1026 Wireless Mouse, USB
Slack is 10.2.

add (or edit) these lines in your mouse inputdevice section in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, so they appear as follows:
Code:
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/mouse"
Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
replace the number of buttons with obviously what you have. the 4 and 5 should be the 2nd highest numbers in the total number of buttons you have for the mouse. for ex, if i have 10 buttons, then use 9 10.
search on lq.org for any of these options, or for this specific problem.. it has been covered an incredible number of times.

after you edit the file, save, and restart X (ctrl alt backspace, then startx again).

if your still having problems, try changing the protocol to Explorerps/2 i think its called, or search for others on lq.org.

if still problems, post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, under the input device section for your mouse, and give us the output of 'lsmod'. it might be a problem with the modules that are loaded/order they are loaded.. as was the case with my usb mouse.
