Mount CD/DVD fails. K3B can mount though?

Hi again.

Some please put me right.... again.

Ok I want to make a little backup script so need to mount my CD/DVD drive. However when I enter 'mount /dev/sr0 /mnt/cdrom' it complains about it cannot read the super block. This seems to only happen on blank media. If the media already has files on it it 'usually' has no problem.

However I am a little pussled as when I run K3B from the command line it detects the drive and the empty media reporting all the media's properties.

So why the apparent discrepency?

Thanks in advance.

A blank CD/DVD can not be mounted since it does not contain a valid filesystem.

There is a timing/information (ATIP) track on the CD that contains the media properties that burning applications can read.

Maybe this should be a sticky or something ... this question has been asked many times.

Remember that you can't mount something that does not contain a filesystem. This means not blank CDs or audio CDs, neither of which contain filesystems. (you need to rip CDs to get the music off there)
