Motorola smartphone files (mtp?)

Recently I tried to transfer some photos made by a Moto X Play to my laptop.

After connecting USB and initiating it as a MTP I can see a lot of Moto's files (using Thunar at a laptop side) but I do not see any fresh photos !
They are visible in Moto's file managers, but not at a linux side...

Why is that ?
I tried also gmtp and jmtpfs with no luck.

When I connect my moto 3 the folder list includes "dcim" and the pictures taken with the camera are in there.

Brodo, are you using Slackware 14.1 or current? If I recall correctly, the mtp drivers for Slackware 14.1 don't properly support the Moto X, since it's too new. I've bumped up to current, so I'll try my moto x and see if it connects properly when I get the chance.

To Sylvester Ink:

I'm using fresh current Slackware. I'm curious what you'll find in your Moto X Play using Slackware.

Okay, I am able to connect and view files via Dolphin and Thunar. However, I see the issue you're referring to, in that it won't show files in the dcim folder. (My Moto X is the original 2013 release.) I'll see if I can find out how to access it. It might be a permissions issue.

I would be very interested in this as well as I have a Moto X (2nd Gen) phone.

Finally I'm able to transfer camera - generated files to Slackware notebook.

First, I created a zip archive using FarOnDroid (file manager) containing files to transfer.
The other file managers should work too.
Next, I moved this zip into Downloads directory existing in the main inner storage of the unit.
Then I switched it completely off.
After initiating it and mounting via USB cable by a Thunar it is visible in Slackware.

Not an elegant solution, but works for me.

Oh, okay, I thought you wanted the correct solution, otherwise I would have suggested that. My solution (especially when MTP didn't work at all on 14.1) was to use scp to copy it to my computer. (And vice versa to copy files to the phone.) That may also be easier for you, since you don't need to restart the phone.

Another workaround is a sftp server on the phone.
Mountable via sshfs(SBo), e.g. Thunar can handle this if you don't like doing it in the shell.
