ok i got slackware 9 installed on my comp, its just a fresh install out of cd, no kernel compiles yet, just some ntfs partitions mounted at boot and minor stuff like that
so im running a sis735 chipset mobo, i wanna change to a smaller rig with the via km400 chipset, after the mobo change, suppose all my ide master/slave configs are kept the same, i wouldn't have to change anything and it'll still work perfectly fine eh?
I upgraded my mobo, cpu and memory from 66 Mhz FSB with SDRAM and a 366 Mhz CPU, to a 266 Mhz board with an Athlon XP and DDRAM. Windoze died without a fight, but the only think Slack noticed was it being much faster :-) I *believe* most of the mobo stuff is compiled into the kernel, so yeah, as long as you keep your hd/cd/dvd the same, you shouldn't have to do anything. Don't you just love linux???
