Missing curl-libs compiling GRIP

Hi, I'm trying to compile GRIP 3.2.0 on Slackware Current but I get an error running ./configure:

Code:
checking curl/curl.h usability... yes
checking curl/curl.h presence... yes
checking for curl/curl.h... yes
checking for curl_global_init in -lcurl... no
configure: error: curl libs are missing
I do have curl 7.12.0 installed which is supposed to have the libraries installed too ... I've tried ldconfig but no succes. I have installed it a few months ago, that probably was on Slackware 9.1, so I've installed the curl-version that came with 9.1 but I get the same error with ./configure.

I have grip running under Slackware 10. I compiled it some time ago but already deleted the configured source. grip --version returns 3.2.0, and ldd grip gives me:
...
libcurl.so.3 => /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3 (0x40df6000)
...

ls /usr/lib/libcurl*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 249780 2004-06-06 18:48 /usr/lib/libcurl.a
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 822 2004-06-06 18:48 /usr/lib/libcurl.la*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2004-07-13 03:54 /usr/lib/libcurl.so -> libcurl.so.3.0.0*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2004-07-13 03:46 /usr/lib/libcurl.so.2 -> libcurl.so.2.0.2*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 162096 2004-02-21 21:16 /usr/lib/libcurl.so.2.0.2*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 16 2004-07-13 03:54 /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3 -> libcurl.so.3.0.0*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 186556 2004-06-06 18:48 /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3.0.0*

I didn't have to install curl libraries, this is a clean slack10 install. If your libraries don't look like these, try reinstalling the curl-7.12.0-i486-1 slackware package

Figured I'd ressurect this thread, since no solution was posted and I find myself in the same situation with GRIP. Precisely the same error message, and I have curl-7.12.1-i486-1 installed. Tried running ldconfig after installing it, but still getting the error.

Anyone have any idea for a solution? Thanks in advance. :

Which is the exact error it gaves?

If it says that /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3 is missing try making a symlink to /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3.0.0
ln -sf /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3.0.0 /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3

It gives the one in the first post here.

Code:
checking curl/curl.h usability... yes
checking curl/curl.h presence... yes
checking for curl/curl.h... yes
checking for curl_global_init in -lcurl... no
configure: error: curl libs are missing

Heh sorry I didn't catch that one, I'm kinda sleepy, did you try making the symlink?

(Sorry for being slow to reply, went out of town).

I'm not sure what symlinks it's asking for exactly? I admit I'm fairly new to compiling from source (only been doing it about a month).

Well, Slack does the symlink I told you by default, so that won't fix it. I'll try to compile grip and tell you how I did it IF i success

EDIT: I downloaded grip and could configure & compile it without problems, detected curl all went ok. I'm using Slackware-current.

I've just found this in Slackware's logs, so try upgrading curl from one of the slackware mirrors.
Mon Jun 7 00:56:25 PDT 2004
n/curl-7.12.0-i486-1.tgz: Upgraded to curl-7.12.0. This uses a new
major shared library version number (.so.3), so all libcurl linked
programs will need to be recompiled.
