For some strange reason, my KDM login screen does not contain shutdown or restart buttons. It simply does not have this capability. There is nowhere on the screen where I can simply restart or shut down my computer.
Would anyone go as far as to explain why these are missing? Thanks.

Generally Slackware defaults to the Gnome greeter. I generally select a gnome session, use the gnome menus to turnon on the gdm options for shutdown for all users, etc, then change my default session back to kde.
