Microphone capture extremely quiet

1 Attachment(s)
I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem that's been bugging me for a while. I bought a nice new PCI Sound card a few months ago, a Asus xonar DS.

The microphone capture works fine in Windows. In Linux it's extremely quiet. I have to hold the mic right up to my mouth and speak loudly to get 'arecord' to capture anything that I can play back.

I've attached a screenshot of the capture section of alsamixer. Noticeably absent are things like 'mic boost' and 'digital' which I'm used to seeing in this area. I've got everything maxed out, but still no volume!

I can run 'arecord -vv', and talking normally doesn't bring the dynamic volume percentage thingy above 1-2%.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Well, you could try editing '/var/lib/alsa/asound.state' and adding a Mic Boost option and see if it accepts it:
