Mic works but doesn't record

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Hi, everyone!
Well, my problem is similar to this.
I have Slack 13. On Asus F3Ja laptop with Intel ICH7.
My speakers works fine and i can hear mic through speakers. But it doesn't record anything.
Symptoms start on boot stage with a message:
Code:
Unknown hardware: "HDA-Intel" "Realtek ALC660""HDA:10ec0861,10430000,00100340 HDA:15433155,10431335,00100700" "" ""
Hardware is initialized using a guess method
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:1266: failed to obtain info for control #4 (No such file or directory)
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:1266: failed to obtain info for control #5 (No such file or directory)
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:1266: failed to obtain info for control #6 (No such file or directory)
In alsamixer "Capture" i have only 1 channel as shown on attached screenshot.
All my alsa and h/w configuration listed in attached alsa-info.txt.

By the way, before upgrading to Slack 13 everything works fine.
I remember that on Slack 12 i've added to /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf string
Code:
options	hda-sound-intel	model=asus-laptop
, so I've made the same with new config, but useless.

I also tried other models for my codec(ALC 660) such as "auto", "asus", "3stack", etc. Useless too.
And now I really don't know what to do.
Any ideas?

hi

a couple of things stand out to my eyes.

1) Your kernel is umm oldish. It impacts on drivers and interaction with Alsa and your alsa is oldish.

If slackware does not have a more recent k..consider using a vanilla
and
consider going to alsa-project.org and getting the latest alsa?

2) your image indicates an issue which may be normal for your sound device but in case you have looked before maybe you can confirm?

I am not sure if you have a front mic connector but I do and so connectors can exist but may need selecting....let me explain more

the following image disappears after a few days

http://imagebin.org/65154

If you have a front mic.....and it is not showing up....you arrow right to that target and then use up or down arrows to scroll thru cd / device/ mic front

You may notice I have a back mic next door.

good luck

Thanks you for reply.
1. If noting else will help I'll try to compile new kernel and alsa.
2. Image that I've atached isn't normal for my soundcard. According to boot fail message there are should be at least 3 additional channels including front mic(near web cam).
