I want to talk to my friends but now my machine is under Slackware (not windows)...so (after i finally get connected to the net) i give a search with google: yahoo messenger for slackware...Nothing.Only or redhat, debian ...but not for slackware.
Could somebody tell me what to do ?
do i have to uninstall first my old gaim and then install this new one ?
could u give me a little help (saying command by command how to install this application ? i think that it-the installation procedure- is not so difficult)
my old gaim (if fact my actual gaim ) why isn't it working properly ? everytime i try to connect appears this message : " X has been disconnected.Couldn/t connect to host." why ? (i am in a LAN and to connect to the net i use a proxy server.)
sorry for asking so many questions, but i want to know exactly what's happening...
I download yahoo messenger for redhat (i have a slackware) (the file name is rh9.ymessenger-1.0.4-1.i386.rpm ).now,in order to install this mail client i must convert it to a tzg file ; i try rpm2tgz as u say ; because i don't know which is the syntax for rpm2tgz i typed man rpm2tgz - the answer was "no manual entry for rpm2tgz" .
SO: what can i do now ? (how can i have my mail client installed ?)
If i type in a shell gaim ,then it appears a very nice gaim interface (where i should give a username and a password ). Because this gaim every time disconnect my, i want to uninstall it ; as u said,i use removepkg gaim*;nothing happens -" No such package: /var/log/packages/gaim*. Can't remove." why ?
How can i install a new version of gaim on my pc ? (this what i want)
i want to install a new version of gaim.I download this archive gaim-0.76-i486-1.tgz.part to my desktop.and the problem is when i want to open it,there is the following answer : Gzip archives need to have the extension "gz".
what can i do ? how to install gaim ?
never faced the problem mentioned. Your download could be corrupted. You used broadband to download it or the dial up modem? Whatever method, you should get a working copy, it's too simple to cause any problem. Try to redownload from here, it never failed me:
Distribution: OpenSuse 10.2, Slackware 11, Solaris 10

Rep:
Using rpm2tgz is simple, true there is no man entry for it.
lets say rh9.rpm is the file
rpm2tgz rh9.rpm
thats it
now the prg will create rh9.tgz in the same directory
