mesed up my ppp config files

after messing around with the config files in /etc/ppp/ (as root) I couldnt do
ppp-on as a user*, so then i did "chmod 750 /etc/ppp/p*" now I cant do it even as root.

So my question is how do I change it back so that it will work when ppp-on calls on it and I can have read access to it as a user.

* long story but i ended up changing the permitions of the binary "ppp-on" and "ppp-off" and symlinking them to the /usr/bin/ so that i can use them as a non root user

Have a look at
MANIFEST.GZ
on your slackware CD ... it contains all
original permissions for every single file :)

ok, cool that file is really helpfull, as are you

the MANIFEST files says that the files need to have their permitions set to "-rw-r--r--", but right now they are set to "---x--x---"

now I'm not good at permisions AT ALL, so how do I change these files to what they are suposed to be?

In order to acheive -rw-r--r-- on a file called "filename" use:

chmod 644 filename

Or, in a more human readable way:

chmod a-x, u+rw, go+r <file>

Cheers,
Tink
