Maybe the newbie is smoking crack...

Lastnight I installed Slackware 9.0 installation is great! I can boot from a floppy! lol.
I've searched Linuxquestions.org, tried all the trouble shooting tips and tricks yada yada yada....The only thing that I haven't tried is moving the install to the front sectors of my 80gb hd (dual booting with HeX-P). I was reading something on how Lilo should be in the front sectors of the HD errr something like that. When I reboot it just goes right to HeX-P. I'll give all the info that you guys need after I get home from work.
Worse comes to worse I'll just try the Slackware on the front of the HD. Any suggestions?

:newbie: is smoking crack....?

Try to install LILO on the mbr. Slackware install will tell you that this is possibly unsafe, but I Never had any problems with it.

arioch 09-25-2003 07:48 AM

Yeah, tried that as well.

I went to the little room with the little pinguin :Pengy:, to see what he had to say. He did have something to say, he said " I GET NOTHING!".

Wonder if putting my foot thru my motherboard will help? lol

The only thing I haven't tried yet is reinstalling Slackware on the front partition of my HD.

No one has any ideas?

I don't mean to nag, but it's not nice to bump up your thread like that. Furthermore, if you want your questions answered in a serious way, it would help if you asked them in a serious way.

As for the lilo problem, you might try doing a 'fdisk /mbr' from a Win 98 bootdisk and then try re-installing lilo to the MBR.

arioch 09-25-2003 09:49 AM

Tried that, it didn't work.

[edit]
Well, if anyone was interested I got it to work. I don't know why, don't know how, but I reformatted my HD created my partitions, then installed Slackware on the first partition(s), and Lilo worked.

And it's hard to be serious if you have been working on something like this all thru the night with no resolve. Lighten up, it's call something to laugh about. Sorry about "bumping up" my thread it's not like anyone had anything to say anyway.
Off the topic: do you have high-blood pressure or something?[/edit]

The way to boot linux if NTLOADER currently occupies your MBR can be found here:

Removed because djbanaan is right WRT redundant posts.

I did not mean to offend you, it's just that this document has become my bible. And no, it's not high blood pressure, but contrary to what i said in my post I, deep down inside I just like nagging :)

Explains alot. Don't worry, I love to nag as well. Thanks for the link, I'm sure I'll find it usefull while I'm bored surfing the net at work. But, I'm sure you understand my frustrations .
I'm sure I'll be kicking my teeth in on something else, and I'll be sure to not let my frustrations get in the way of Thread titles :) .

g00$e: thanks for the link I'm sure it will come in handy.
