Make or gmake?

I'm using slackware current, and I'm getting this error when trying to compile wxGTK:

You need a make-utility that is able to use the variable
VPATH correctly.
If your version of make does not support VPATH correctly,
please install GNU-make (possibly as gmake), and start
configure with the following command:
export MAKE=gmake; ./configure  for sh-type shells
setenv MAKE gmake; ./configure  for csh-type shells
Also please do remember to use gmake in this case every time
you are trying to compile.

have you installed automake, make, and/or pmake?

I know this may sound stupid, but I hadn't... it's just that when I used "slackpkg search make" it wouldn't return the package "make", it only showed things like cmake and pmake. Now, I tried "slackpkg install make" and... ta-da!

Weird... somehow "slackpkg search" missed this one. I've just tried to update it's database and, yet again, no "make" package is shown. But if I try "slackpkg install make" it works. And since I'm a new slackware user, I started to wonder if there was no gnu-make on it... Thanks willysr!
