make errors - lslang not found

Hi,
I started a post in software about gimp compilation but it seems to have turned into a slackware issue so I figured I was better off asking any new questions here.

I've been trying to compile gimp-2.0pre3 (latest version of gimp) and I get an error during make . configure works fine (I've been using ./configure --prefix=/usr , as I wanna make it into my own package) with no complaints:

I get the following error during make :

/usr/lib/libpangoxft-1.0.so /usr/lib/libpangox-1.0.so /usr/lib/libpango-1.0.so /usr/lib/libgobject-2.0.so /usr/lib/libgmodule-2.0.so -ldl /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so
/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i486-slackware-linux/3.2.3/../../../../i486-slackware-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -lslang
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make[3]: *** [aa] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/tar_files/gimp-2.0pre3/plug-ins/common'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/tar_files/gimp-2.0pre3/plug-ins'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/tar_files/gimp-2.0pre3'
make: *** [all] Error 2

if it helps I'm using gcc 3.2.3:

configure --prefix=/usr --enable-shared --enable-threads=posix --enable-__cxa_atexit --disable-checking --with-gnu-ld --verbose --target=i486-slackware-linux --host=i486-slackware-linux
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.2.3

by the way, I'm curious about the fact that it's target is an i486, what is that? surely it should be i686? And is there any way to change this? My processor is an athlon 2000XP

slang...

From an admittedly hasty glance at your errors and your OS list I'm assuming that you are doing the compilation on SuSE?

I have heard of this...I'm not sure if it will give you any benefit but have you tried installing packages for slang? such as slang, slang-dev, slang-devel and such?

It may help...no warranties...just thought I'd offer it.

I'm doing the compilation on Slackware (I think I gave up compiling from source in SuSE a long time ago {RPM hell } )

I've installed slang but didn't realise there was a slang-dev as well, I'll try to install the others (if I can actually find them ) and try again

ok I've looked everywhere for slang development files and can't find them - where the **** are they? I can only find slang and nothing else

sorted it I managed to track it down to a dodgy slang package that had the symlinks in the wrong place.
