i think you will have to use kmenuedit to add icons to the gnome apps in your menu, unless you want to edit some text files which can be a lot of work if there are a lot of gnome apps in your kmenu, the files for gnome's apps will probably be in /usr/share/applications, they are all text files and besides the foreign languages translated in [] brackets the pertinent information usually goes like:

once you get the idea how these files are formated they are not difficult to edit and you can create your own as needed...
when i make these files i always add the full path to the icons so kde will pick them up and use them...
